galaxy cruising

dutch baklavah - galaxy cruising (132mb)

total run time - 1:11:58

compiled during the final months of 2009 in strict correlation with my new job at amoeba. the idea for this mix was to create something that'd get me to and from work on the los angeles metro road buses and subways during heavy day traffic and long, late-night bus stop waiting. as the music begins, i head off on my bike toward the bus stop a couple miles away. after affixing my bike to a no parking sign, i wait for the bus; when i eventually arrive at the underground tubular transports, i speed through the dark for a while (that's where the dubstep comes in). i then leave the subway system and emerge directly into the heart of hollywood tourist country. soothingly distracting music is in order: bowie; boyd; and croaking frogs. as i near amoeba to start the day, it's almost time to listen to nine hours of mostly sublime music that i have no control over hearing.

on one particularly slow tuesday evening, i got paid for an hour's worth of standing completely still with my hands folded at my waist while rick james' "street songs" played in its entirety. working at amoeba is to constantly travel through realms multifarious, and galaxy cruising is a representation of that perpetual motion. enjoy.
